Unique American Boxed Tape Loom ca 1800

$0.00

SIZE
7 ¼ x 15”

DESCRIPTION
Harks of Rhode Island; use of mahogany and other features indicate non vernacular manufacture. Most tape loom boxes are utilitarian and crude. This object it opposite of crude. QA-like crest possibly diagnostic. Finely dovetailed interior w/ 12 little lidded cubicles. Holes in lid-knobs indicate the cubicles were intended to hold and sort different colored yarns for weaving ornate tapes. Fancy bone-work was bundled up and hiding in one of the cubicles. Unique, possibly custom-made object for which I could find no comps remotely similar.

CONDITION
Some veneer repair. Otherwise good.
