Folk art portrait. Unsigned; no provenance. The sitter is identified as John Dashiell a prominent early 19th century lawyer from Somerset County MD which is just south of Baltimore, home of itinerant limner Joshua Johnson. Other features (ie., face, hair, collar, buttons) resemble identified works by Johnson. Additional research warranted.

CONDITION
Lined to cardboard. Canvas and paint appear to be original and unretouched.
