Rare Pair Pittsburgh Glass Candlesticks circa 1840

$0.00

SIZE
9 1/4” tall

DESCRIPTION
Clear blown fonts atop pressed flint bases with Pittsburgh-type wafer. This pair is nearly identical to those shown in L. Innes 1976 Pittsburgh Glass, pp. 237 which were curated at Historical Society of Western PA (Pittsburgh collections). The bulbous blown fonts were possibly intended to allow use as fat lamps.

CONDITION
Both sticks have small shallow chips (aka) "fleabites" on the bottom surface at the corners; the one on the left (in addition to the fleabites) has a more substantial chip at one corner of the base which also runs up the side of that corner (not easy to see on this photo); this stick also has a chip along the left edge of the wafer which is pretty well visible in photo 1. Additionally, the pewter bobeches are not identical. I think one is original and the other is not. But I have no way of knowing which is which. If you are a glass collector and absolute stickler for perfect-condition-- do not buy these sticks.
