DESCRIPTION
Southeast Pennsylvania pine or poplar. Background paint is dark windsor green rather than black. The rendering of the front arcaded panels with pinwheel floral motifs are likely by the same hand as two examples (figs 64 and 66) published in Monroe Fabian’s 1978 The Pennsylvania-German Decorated Chest. The association with Berks County was evidenced by other cited examples associated via provenance.

CONDITION
Abundant paint wear and loss (especially the lid) . Careful examination reveals that right side bracket was an early replacement (fixed w/ T-head nails versus larger rosehead nails on other elements). Brass escutcheon is an early replacement; crab lock is MIA tho original keeper is insitu.
