New York Pewter Gimbal Whale Oil Lamp c. 1860

$0.00

SIZE
5” tall; base is 5” diameter

DESCRIPTION
Touchmark of “Yale and Curtis,. N Y.” (acknmt, D. Zabriskie, functional genius of sorts). Swivel lamps (aka Gimbals) were designed to be used onboard ship ships where gravity+ motion are problematic for human habliaments. Note the ring attachment which would allow it to be functional as a sconce. I suspect it once had a finger ring.

CONDITION
As stated, signs of erstwhile finger ring now MIA. Patina on this strongly suggests it actually was used amid salt air aboard a ship. Otherwise excellent. Examine photos.
